ASTROLOGY
Astrology, or Jyotish, is a Vedic science derived from the Sanskrit word "Jyoti" meaning light. It encompasses both astrology and astronomy and is based on ancient Sanskrit scriptures and the teachings of great sages like Maharishi Parashara. The principles of Jyotish were revealed to ancient Maharishis during meditation, making it a revered and complex system.
Modern people often find Vedic Astrology difficult to comprehend due to the degradation of memory and intelligence in the current age, Kali-yuga. However, by following the teachings of the Maharishis, one can understand and correctly apply the principles of Jyotish.Jyotish, one of the six Vedangas, is considered "the eyes of the Vedas" and is essential for Vedic sacrifices and ceremonies.
It includes time and calendar calculations, as well as finding auspicious timings (Muhurtha) for activities like marriage and travel. Jyotish has four main branches: Jaataka (predictive astrology), Prashna (horary astrology), Muhurtha (electional astrology), and Nimitta or Samhita (the science of omens). Astronomy in Jyotish involves planetary calculations and movements, while astrology interprets these movements to understand karmic reactions.
The planetary movements indicate the quality of time, influenced by the three Gunas: Sattva (goodness), Rajas (passion), and Tamas (inactivity). Jyotish studies and predicts changes in these Gunas to determine the fate and character of individuals.
